The WESG finals are a unique experience that is often compared to the Olympic Games finals. They may not have the status of having been a“Major tournament” before, but they are surely on their way to get it since they have an amazing financial capacity and their events are nothing short of spectacular in terms of organization.
The format which is used for the World Finals is the Round-Robin, meaning that each of the competitors has to face every team from their group. That way, competition is fair and nobody gets an “easy” way to The Playoffs.
Usually, there are 32 teams separated into 4 groups, each containing 8 teams, while only the two best ranked proceed next to The Playoffs. All the matches in the group stage are usually a BO2 series.
The Playoffs are a little bit different, as they are played using the single-elimination bracket format, while the matches are BO3 series.
Sometimes the organizer will test out new concepts and formats. Therefore always check the tournament page if you would like to study a specific tournament.
Whats special in WESG
WESG has a unique set of principles that is similar to the World Cup sports type of events and Olympic games as well – teams are formed based on the nationality of the players, as they are fighting for the national pride and glory alongside the title and monetary award.
The qualifiers are divided and played across all the regions in the world – Europe, North America, Asia, and others…
It is one of the AliSports’ most important goals that esports gets established as a solid sport and that players, as athletes, nurture all the principles that are required for professional sports – discipline, respect, national pride, and teamwork.
