Astralis

Copenhagen - Denmark - Europe

Astralis is an organization based in Denmark, and it consists of players who used to form teams Questionmark and SoloMid. The name Astralis used to belong to the original Finnish creators of the team, but with the help of the team manager, they successfully obtained it.

What’s special with Astralis is that it is co-owned by the players of their own Lineup.

The very first event they had ever attended was DreamHack Leipzig 2016 in January of that year. The team was at the top of their group after they managed to beat their Danish rival Dignitas. Unfortunately, they got defeated by Luminosity gaming in the semi-finals and were eliminated from the tournament.

The next tournament they joined was Global eSports Cup where they got 1st in the group stage. Unfortunately, they again met defeat in the semi-finals. On the bright side, they managed to get the victory in the next game and won the 3rd place.

Some of the following tournaments they joined were very tough for this team since they did not achieve to hit the bar that they have set for themselves. They were known as the group-sweeping team but they got eliminated during the group stage of DreamHack Masters Malmo 16. Dignitas managed to pull an upset and give an early exit to Astralis.

In October of the same year, the Astralis team went on to participate in the ESL New York 2016 but did not get past SK Gaming (their former rival Luminosity), OpTic Gaming and Fnatic.

Seven days later, they lost in the finals of WESG 2016 to GODSENT. After that tournament, they lost one of the members, “karrigan”, who was replaced by “gla1ve”.

After forming a new roster, Astralis managed to get their reputation back as a top-quality team, and have been playing as if they’ve been renewed ever since. They swiped their group at ELEAGUE Season 2 and went on to do the same thing at IEM OAKLAND 2016.

Fast forward to 2018, they have been piling up wins and tournaments which would take much more space to list. If they continue to develop, they have a bright future ahead of them since some of the commentators already regard them as the most dominant team ever.

Astralis kept the 1st rank in the world within 407 consecutive days which gave them the title as “the greatest CS:GO team of all time”
